This is known as Umrah Badal.
You can perform Umrah for:

- A sick or elderly person who cannot travel
- Someone physically unable to perform Umrah
2. Important Condition: Perform Your Own Umrah First
You must perform Umrah for yourself first before doing Umrah for someone else.
📌 This rule is based on Islamic teachings and practice of the companions.
Only after completing your own Umrah can you intend Umrah for another person.
3. How to Make Intention (Niyyah) for Someone Else
When entering Ihram, make intention clearly.
Example intention:
👉 “O Allah, I am performing Umrah on behalf of (name of the person). Accept it from me and from them.”
The rest of the Umrah steps remain exactly the same.
4. Where Do You Enter Ihram for Umrah Badal?
If you are already in Makkah, you must go to a Miqat point like:
- Masjid Aisha (Masjid al-Taneem)
From there:
- Wear Ihram
- Make intention for Umrah Badal
- Return to Masjid al-Haram to perform Umrah
5. Are the Umrah Rituals Different?
No. The steps remain the same:
- Ihram & Niyyah
- Tawaf around the Kaaba
- Sa’i between Safa and Marwa
- Hair cutting (Halq or Taqsir)
Only the intention changes.
6. Can I Perform Umrah for Multiple People?
Yes, but:
- Each Umrah requires a separate Ihram and intention
- You must exit the Haram area and re-enter Ihram each time
One Umrah = one person.
7. Who Should You Perform Umrah For?
It is recommended to perform Umrah Badal for:
- Parents
- Close family members
- Someone who requested it
- Someone who passed away
This act is considered great sadaqah (charity).

Performing Umrah for someone else is a beautiful and rewarding act. As long as you have completed your own Umrah and follow the correct intention, Umrah Badal is valid and accepted, In Sha Allah.
May Allah accept your Umrah and reward you for helping others fulfill this sacred journey.
